NAWALPARASI: The Daunne section of the East-West Highway in Nawalparasi, which had been blocked due to road collapse following continuous rainfall, has now been opened for one-way traffic.
According to police, passenger and small vehicles that had been halted since early morning are now being allowed to pass alternately.
The highway was obstructed after about three feet of the road collapsed early this morning at Khursanikhola in Bardaghat Municipality-4.
District Police Office Nawalparasi’s information officer, DSP Bir Dutta Panta, stated that the collapsed section has been filled with soil to allow partial vehicle movement.
A cargo truck with registration number Lu 1 Kha 5827, which was stuck during the road collapse, has been removed using towing equipment.
The Narayanghat-Butwal Road Expansion Project is currently carrying out repair work to fully restore the highway. Last year as well, the same section was closed for two days due to a road collapse.
Although the road was repaired and reopened last year after being damaged by a landslide, the same spot has collapsed again this year following rainfall.
The Narayanghat-Butwal road section frequently faces transportation disruptions due to road collapses, landslides, and slippery surfaces triggered by rainfall.
