KATHMANDU: Authorities have imposed a curfew in parts of Kathmandu after Gen Z protests against corruption and the government’s social media ban spiraled into violent clashes near the federal Parliament building.

The curfew will remain in effect until 10 PM tonight in key protest hotspots including Maitighar, New Baneshwor, Tinkune, and Shankhamul.

The order came after demonstrators breached barricades, stormed the Parliament compound, and clashed with police who fired tear gas and aerial warning shots to disperse the crowds.

The youth-led protests, which began peacefully in the morning with patriotic songs and anti-corruption slogans, have now turned into one of the most serious challenges to state authority in recent years.

Parallel demonstrations have also spread to Pokhara, Butwal, Dang, Nepalgunj, and other major cities, signaling nationwide unrest.

Security forces remain on high alert across the country as analysts warn that the movement reflects a generational shift in Nepal’s political landscape.
