KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has tendered his resignation following days of violent and widespread Gen-Z–led protests that have rocked Nepal.

Oli, who was under mounting pressure as demonstrators torched homes of top political leaders, government buildings, and party headquarters, announced his decision late Tuesday.

The protests, which erupted against corruption, entrenched privilege, and attempts to restrict social media, have escalated into one of the most intense political uprisings in recent decades.

At least 19 protesters were killed on Monday after security forces opened fire on crowds in Kathmandu and other cities, further fueling public anger. .

On Tuesday, mobs set fire to Oli’s Balkot residence along with the homes of senior leaders from major political parties, including the Nepali Congress and Maoist Centre.

The resignation leaves Nepal’s ruling coalition in disarray, with no clear successor in sight.

An all-party meeting called earlier today to seek consensus is now expected to focus on transition and addressing the protest movement’s demands.
