KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army has announced a nationwide curfew order in response to the escalating unrest.
According to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information of the Army, the curfew will remain in place across the country until 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Army spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet said the curfew would be reimposed on Thursday (Sept 11) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
He urged the public to stay indoors during the curfew hours except for essential needs.
Basnet clarified that ambulances, hearses, fire engines, health workers, and security personnel vehicles will be allowed to operate during the curfew.
He further stated that the Army is coordinating with concerned stakeholders to address the situation and seek a long-term solution.
“The Army will treat any protest, vandalism, looting, arson, or attacks on individuals and property in the name of the movement as a punishable crime and take strict action,” the Army Headquarters said in its official notice.
