KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has decided to pull out of the Madhes Province government.
In a parliamentary party meeting held Wednesday at the provincial party office, Nepali Congress resolved to withdraw support previously extended to the government and recall its ministers.
Earlier, the Janamat Party had formally notified the provincial chief and the Provincial Assembly Secretariat about withdrawing its support.
With Nepali Congress now retracting its support, the Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh-led Janamat Party government has fallen into a minority.
The Madhes Province Assembly has a total of 107 members: Nepali Congress holds 22 seats, CPN-UML 25 (including the Speaker), Janamat Party 13, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party 9, Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal 19, CPN (Maoist Centre) 9, CPN (Unified Socialist) 7, and the remaining three parties — Nagarik Unmukti Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and Nepal Federal Socialist Party — hold one seat each.
