KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), has stated that the party will actively participate in upcoming elections and is simultaneously pursuing efforts for unity with other leftist and socialist parties.
Speaking to journalists after the Secretariat meeting held on Monday at the party’s central office in Parisdanda, Prachanda emphasized that elections should be held on the declared date and that all political parties must participate.
“Our party will participate actively and move forward. We are also engaging in dialogue with other political parties, and I expect the results to be visible in some time,” he said.
During the meeting, discussions also focused on monsoon-related damages across the country and the work that needs to be done to address them.
“We discussed how to gather information on where damages occurred due to the disaster and what steps we need to take. The Central Committee has already decided on how we should proceed,” Prachanda added.
On the subject of party unity, Dahal briefed that discussions are ongoing with Biplav-led Communist Party of Nepal, Nepal Samajwadi Party led by Mahindra Ray Yadav, and the Unified Socialist Party.
However, he indicated that only Yadav-led NSP is currently ready for unity, while talks are also ongoing regarding an alliance with Ashok Rai-led Janata Samajwadi Party.
Earlier, the Maoist Central Committee meetings on September 26 and 27 had decided to pursue unity with parties associated with the Socialist Front.
