Nine major highways across Nepal blocked

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall across various parts of the country has triggered floods and landslides, blocking nine major highways in three provinces, according to the Nepal Police Headquarters.

The police reported that the highways affected lie in Koshi, Bagmati, and Karnali provinces. In Koshi Province, sections of the Koshi Highway have been obstructed at Barunkhola in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality–4 and at Ekua in Makalu Rural Municipality–3 of Sankhuwasabha district.

Similarly, the Mechi Highway has been blocked at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality–9, and the Tamor Corridor at Nawakhola in Tumbewa Rural Municipality–2 of Panchthar district, said Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire.

In Bagmati Province, the Pasang Lhamu Highway at Gosainkunda Rural Municipality–2 of Rasuwa district, the BP Highway at Mamtikhola in Roshi Rural Municipality–11 of Kavrepalanchok, and at Nepalthok in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality–1 of Sindhuli have also been blocked.

In Karnali Province, the Karnali Corridor has been completely obstructed at Kurilla in Kharpunath Rural Municipality–5 of Humla and at Jugenikhola in Pachaaljharana Rural Municipality–8 of Kalikot district.

Meanwhile, the Koshi Highway at Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality–1 of Dhankuta, and the Tribhuvan Highway at Baguwakhola in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–8 and at Ghattepakh in Bakaiya Rural Municipality–11 of Makwanpur, have been opened partially, allowing one-way traffic, police confirmed.
