KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office has announced that traditional Deusi-Bhailo programs — a major part of Nepal’s Tihar festivities — will only be allowed until 9 p.m. this year.

In a public notice issued Friday, the administration prohibited any Deusi-Bhailo events or related musical gatherings after that time, urging citizens to celebrate “in a respectful and limited manner.”

Assistant Chief District Officer Mukti Ram Rijal said Deusi-Bhailo programs must not obstruct public roads or cause disturbance to residents. The administration also reiterated its annual ban on the sale, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other explosive materials during the festival.

Tihar, often called the “festival of lights,” is celebrated across Nepal with illuminated homes, music, and the exchange of blessings between families and communities.
