KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has continued her consultations with leaders of various political parties regarding the upcoming elections.
In this connection, she held a discussion today with Nepali Congress General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma.
According to the Prime Minister’s chief personal secretary, Adarsha Kumar Shrestha, the hour-long meeting between 4 and 5 p.m. focused on the government and political parties’ preparations so far and the necessary steps to be taken in the coming days.
Prime Minister Karki emphasized that political parties must make their positions on the election clear. During the discussion, the two Nepali Congress leaders said, “Although a formal decision is yet to be made, the Nepali Congress is committed to participating in the election and will make an official announcement soon.
We believe the CPN (UML) also cannot avoid elections if the nation is to find a way forward. The government should make further efforts to bring UML on board, and we will also do our part.”
They also said that their party would soon hold meaningful talks with Gen Z youth groups and other political parties.
The leaders stressed the need for intensive dialogue with all parties, including the Gen Z movement, to determine which of the youth’s demands can be addressed before the elections and which issues can be decided by the first session of the new Parliament afterward.
Prime Minister Karki has also invited UML leaders for similar discussions. The UML leadership informed Baluwatar that they would meet on another day due to their ongoing party meeting today.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had held several rounds of consultations with leaders of different political parties.
At her initiative, a tripartite dialogue among the government, political parties, and Gen Z youth was recently concluded in a cordial atmosphere.
