KATHMANDU:The central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress is scheduled to take place today.

The meeting, which was postponed on Friday, will now be held at 1 PM at the party’s central office in Sanepa, according to Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel.

The party is currently facing internal disputes over the timetable for the upcoming 15th General Convention.

General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma’s faction has been pushing for the convention to be completed within the month of December, while the establishment faction insists that it cannot be held before the next election and wants the timetable adjusted accordingly.

Amid this dispute, 54 percent of the convention representatives have submitted signatures demanding a special general convention.

The ongoing central committee meeting is expected to focus primarily on this issue.

Before the full committee meeting, Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has also called a separate meeting with the two general secretaries and top party leaders to seek a consensus.
