TAPLEGUNJ: Deputy General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) Yogesh Bhattarai has said that the UML has resolved to take part in the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections following discussions with the government.

During a press conference held by Press Chautari Taplejung today, Bhattarai stated that there had been previous uncertainty regarding the elections and the party’s participation. However, after engaging in talks with the government, a decision was reached to move forward with the elections.

He pointed out that the election process is already underway and stressed the importance of the government ensuring that the elections are conducted fairly and without fear, as political parties have already submitted their closed lists for proportional representation to the HoR election.

Deputy General Secretary Bhattarai expressed serious concerns about the events of September 8 and 9, which saw a decline in the morale of security forces, the escape of thousands of prisoners, and the looting of weapons from security forces.

He noted that the UML’s decision to participate in the elections came after the government acknowledged its sensitivity to these pressing issues.

Bhattarai expressed the belief that this election will differ significantly from previous ones and will be crucial for the restoration of democracy and the constitution. He underscored that the primary challenge currently is to protect democracy, which requires cooperation and coordination among all political factions.

Additionally, he warned that the recent unrest in Venezuela, Ukraine, East Asia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka could have repercussions for Nepal, thereby highlighting the necessity for national unity.
