KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress’s Special Convention has dissolved the central committee led by President Sher Bahadur Deuba. As the election process for the 134-member central committee has begun, the old working committee has been dissolved, according to the Election Office.

“The election process has started, and the closed session hall has already dissolved all committees of the 14th convention,” said Sitaram KC, Coordinator of the Central Election Committee. The closed session of the Special Convention on Tuesday has already advanced the election schedule, and nomination forms are currently being distributed.

The central working committee under Deuba was formed from 10 to 14 December 2021. KC stated that the tenure of the existing committee formed under Deuba by the 14th convention has expired, which is why it has been dissolved.

According to KC, a new central working committee will be elected until the 15th Nepali Congress convention is held. In addition, the central election committee, central disciplinary committee, and central audit committee formed on various dates under the 2017 Congress statute have also been dissolved.

KC also stated that a five-member election committee, including one coordinator, has been formed in accordance with Article 35 of the statute to conduct the central committee elections through the Special Convention.
