KATHMANDU: Authorities have begun screening squatters and landless families displaced from Thapathali along the Bagmati River as part of a broader relocation and settlement management effort in Kathmandu.

Teams from the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority and the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization are collecting data at Dashrath Stadium in Tripureshwor, where affected families have been temporarily brought following the demolition of illegal structures.

Kabita KC Bogati, administration chief of the Authority, said records of 23 families had been collected by Saturday afternoon, with four already relocated to the Radha Soami Satsang Center in Kirtipur. “We are documenting family details of genuine squatters and sending them to designated shelters with food and accommodation arranged,” she said, adding that land distribution will follow in a later phase.

Squatter families continue to arrive at the stadium seeking assistance, though some have chosen alternative arrangements. Health teams from Kathmandu Metropolitan City have also been deployed to provide medical support during the transition.

Meanwhile, clearance operations in Thapathali have been completed, and authorities have begun removing illegal structures in the Sinamangal Gairigaun area, where residents are also relocating in line with government directives.
