KATHMANDU: A Turkish Airlines aircraft experienced a fire on its landing gear wheel while touching down at Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday morning, triggering an emergency response at the airport.

The incident took place around 6:45 am when the Istanbul–Kathmandu flight (TK726) was landing.

Airport security sources said flames were seen coming from one of the aircraft’s wheels during the landing roll.

Firefighters stationed at the airport quickly responded and extinguished the fire using firefighting equipment. The situation was brought under control within minutes.

All passengers on board were safely evacuated through emergency exits.

Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

Preliminary information suggests the issue may be related to the landing gear or braking system, but authorities have not confirmed the exact cause.

A detailed technical inspection of the aircraft is underway.

Airport operations have been affected due to the emergency response.

The Civil Aviation Authority and technical teams are investigating the incident to determine what led to the wheel fire and to assess the aircraft’s condition before any further operations.
