KATHMANDU: The government has announced a policy to offer share investment options to project-affected citizens in place of cash compensation.
Presenting the government’s policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27, President Ram Chandra Paudel said the new approach aims to increase local participation in development projects.
The government also said it would amend laws related to energy, forests, land and environment and implement a one-door system to help achieve the target of producing 30,000 megawatts of electricity over the next decade.
President Paudel said private sector participation would be ensured in electricity generation, transmission, distribution and trade.
According to the policy document, the government aims to promote energy-based industries and significantly increase domestic electricity consumption.
The president also said cross-border energy trade agreements would be used as a means to attract long-term investment in the energy sector.
