WASHINGTON DC: US President Donald Trump has said the ceasefire with Iran is “on life support” after rejecting Tehran’s latest proposal to end the conflict, calling it “totally unacceptable”.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the United States has made “unreasonable demands” to end the war, while parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran is ready to respond to any aggression, warning that the US will be “surprised”.

The European Union has agreed to impose new sanctions on Israeli settlers over violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, a move rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said it “will not succeed”.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s death toll from Israel’s war has risen to 72,740, while Lebanon says Israeli attacks have killed 2,869 people since March 2.

UN officials have also warned of a possible humanitarian disaster if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, saying up to 45 million people could face hunger if fertiliser shipments are disrupted.
