DHANUSHA: Police on Friday arrested two Indian nationals after firing one round into the air near the Basahi River stream in Mithila Municipality–6, Dhanusha.

Acting on a special tip-off that the individuals had entered Nepal from India to trade controlled drugs, a joint police team deployed from the Narcotics Control Bureau, Bardibas, and the Area Police Office, Dhalkebar, took them into custody.

The arrestees have been identified as Santosh Kumar Mahato (26) of Harlakhi Police Station Ward No. 5, Bihar, India, and Mithilesh Kumar Sahu (45) of Basopatti Police Station Ward No. 2, Bihar, India.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhusudan Nyaupane, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Dhanusha, the officers were forced to fire a warning shot in the air after the suspects attempted to flee upon spotting the police team.

During a body search, police recovered 103.220 grams of a wet substance resembling brown heroin from the trouser pocket of Mahato.

DSP Nyaupane stated that further investigation into both individuals is currently underway.
