KATHMANDU: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava attended the annual event of the IIT Roorkee Alumni Association in Nepal (IITRAN), praising the institution’s historic and ongoing contributions to the country’s infrastructure and development.

In a post on X, Ambassador Srivastava highlighted the legacy of early Nepali engineers trained at IIT Roorkee—such as Kumar Narsingh Rana and Kishor Narsingh Rana, Dilli Jung Thapa and Surya Jung Thapa—who played instrumental roles in constructing iconic national landmarks, including Singha Durbar in Kathmandu and the historic Hetauda-Kathmandu ropeway.

Srivastava noted that the deep-rooted relationship between Nepal and the institute dates back over a century, symbolically anchored by a clock gifted to the university in 1896 by former Nepali Prime Minister Bir Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, which still adorns the main campus hall today.
