KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment is set to import approximately 210,000 metric tons of chemical fertilizer by mid-August to ensure adequate supplies for paddy farmers.

This includes 30,000 metric tons of urea from India via a government-to-government (G2G) agreement, alongside 180,000 metric tons (60,000 tons of DAP and 120,000 tons of urea) sourced through global tenders from countries like Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam.

Despite global supply chain constraints caused by West Asia conflicts, the ministry aims to distribute a record-breaking 600,000 metric tons of subsidized fertilizer in upcoming fiscal year.

To streamline distribution and curb black marketing, an online tracking system has been mandated.
