NEPSE plummets by 39.44 points, turnover climbs to Rs 4.665 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) reversed its recent gains today (Tuesday), as the market index took a sharp downturn on the second trading day of the week. After a period of bullish momentum that saw the exchange covered in greenery, the benchmark index turned red the very next day, erasing the progress made during the previous session.

The NPSE decreased by 39.44 points today. On the previous trading day (Monday), the NEPSE had increased by 38.19 points.

Compared to the previous trading day, the NEPSE, which fell by 1.41 percent, stopped at 2744.40 points. On this day, the sensitive index also decreased by 5.15 points to stop at 468.26 points. On a percentage basis, this is 1.08 percent lower than the previous trading day. Similarly, the float index decreased by 1.35 percent and the sensitive float index by 1.18 percent.

In the stock market on Tuesday, at least 10,678,550 shares were bought and sold through 62,512 transactions of 338 companies. Accordingly, a turnover of Rs 4.665 billion occurred on Tuesday. On Monday, a turnover of Rs 4.613 billion had occurred.

Share prices of only 13 companies increased in the stock market today. While the share prices of 251 companies went down, the share prices of five companies remained stable. Out of the 13 groups traded in NEPSE today, the subindices of all groups except mutual funds turned red.

Accordingly, on Tuesday, the index of the Commercial Bank group decreased by 0.83 percent, Development Bank by 1.37 percent, Finance by 2.03 percent, Hotels and Tourism by 2.02 percent, Hydropower by 2.22 percent, Investment by 1.30 percent, Life Insurance by 0.54 percent, Manufacturing and Processing by 1.65 percent, and the Microfinance group sub-index by 1.51 percent. The index of the mutual fund subgroup, however, increased by 0.19 percent.

Similarly, the sub-indices of non-life insurance decreased by 0.77 percent, others by 1.49 percent, and the trading group by 2.33 percent.

In NEPSE on Tuesday, investors of Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha earned 15 percent. That is, a positive circuit was triggered in the share price of Dhaulagiri. Similarly, investors of First Microfinance Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha lost 12.40 percent in share price.

Based on the turnover amount, National Hydropower Company remained at the top. Today, a turnover of Rs 189.9 million occurred for National.

Likewise, based on the number of shares traded, National Hydropower Company was also ahead. On Tuesday, at least 656,163 shares of this company were bought and sold. Its final trading price was maintained at Rs 285 per share.
