BHOJPUR: Security forces in Bhojpur have destroyed more than 139,000 cannabis plants in a large-scale anti-drug operation targeting illegal cultivation across the district.
According to District Police Office Chief Raju Lama, the campaign led to the destruction of 130,485 mature plants and 8,550 saplings grown in hidden plantations. Police also arrested 14 individuals in connection with drug-related offences, recovering 1,556 kilograms of processed marijuana from their possession.
The update was shared during a program in Pouwadungma Rural Municipality held ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Authorities said a district-wide awareness campaign will continue until Asar 12 (June 26), focusing on schools, communities, and local stakeholders to raise awareness about drug abuse and its consequences.
Alongside the eradication drive, the District Administration Office and District Police Office also conducted a public hearing on service delivery.
Chief District Officer Rajan Paudel stressed the need for strong coordination between the state, communities, and citizens, stating that sustained awareness and strict enforcement are key to tackling drug abuse effectively.
