KATHMANDU: Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has launched ‘Cleanliness Week 2026’ across the country starting Monday under the slogan “A New Commitment to Clean Governance.”

The campaign will cover federal, provincial, and local government offices, along with public educational institutions, aiming to make public services cleaner, more organized, and environment-friendly.

The official inauguration will take place at Bir Hospital at 8:30 am in the presence of Health Minister Nisha Mehta.

Under new guidelines issued by the government, offices must maintain clean entrances, repair damaged walls, manage waste properly, keep toilets odor-free with regular water supply and soap, and separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste using at least two dustbins.

The directive also bans open waste burning and instructs offices to clean drainage areas, improve parking spaces, remove unmanaged wires and posters, and establish help desks to improve public service delivery.

To ensure sustainability, every office must appoint a cleanliness focal person, prepare weekly cleaning schedules, and conduct monthly self-evaluations.
