KATHMANDU: Swiss Ambassador to Nepal, Danielle Meuwly, attended the official launch of the Joint United Nations Mental Health Support Programme, reaffirming Switzerland’s commitment to enhancing mental health and psychosocial support services across Nepal.
Speaking at the launch, Ambassador Meuwly stated that mental health extends beyond medical care, describing it as a critical issue tied to human rights, development, and social cohesion.
She emphasized the necessity of investing in community-based initiatives, bolstering national institutional frameworks, and ensuring that vulnerable demographics—specifically women, youth, and marginalized communities—have unhindered access to quality mental health resources.
The joint initiative is backed by key international agencies, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Nepal.
Ambassador Meuwly noted that Switzerland aims to remain a long-term partner in developing inclusive, resilient systems to promote public wellbeing and support the country’s broader sustainable development goals.
