DARCHULA: A mild earthquake was felt in Darchula district on Sunday, causing brief panic among local residents in the Himalayan region.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the tremor measured 4.1 on the Richter scale and occurred at 11:55 am.

The epicenter was located around Tapoban area of Darchula district, a mountainous region near Nepal’s far-western border.

Local residents reported feeling a short but noticeable shake, prompting some people to step outside their homes and open spaces as a precaution. However, officials said the quake was relatively weak and did not last long.

Authorities have confirmed that there are no immediate reports of casualties or major property damage following the tremor.

The earthquake comes as part of the region’s ongoing seismic activity, as Nepal lies in a highly active tectonic zone where minor to moderate tremors are relatively common.
