KATHMANDU: Several major highways in different parts of the country have been disrupted after continuous rainfall triggered landslides, authorities said.
According to Nepal Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Abhi Narayan Kafle, multiple road sections were completely blocked on Monday night due to landslides and road collapses.
The affected routes include the road section at Salakpur in Rong Rural Municipality–6 of Ilam, Chaukidanda in Namobuddha Municipality–6 and Ghumaune in Roshi Rural Municipality–7 of Kavre, as well as the Chaarsayabesi section of the BP Highway, all of which remain fully obstructed.
He added that some previously blocked road sections have seen partial improvement.
These include the Mid-Hill Highway at Bokhim in Bhojpur Municipality–5, which was blocked after floods on April 25; the Beni–Jomsom road section at Jalthale in Annapurna Rural Municipality–3 of Myagdi, affected by a landslide on April 29; and the Mid-Hill Highway section at Bimire Bhanjyang in Madhya Nepal Municipality–10, Lamjung, which are now operating one-way.
Police have urged travelers to exercise caution while using highways during the monsoon season, warning of increased risks of floods and landslides.
