KATHMANDU: The Beni–Jomsom–Korala road linking Mustang to Nepal’s national highway network has remained blocked since Tuesday morning after a landslide hit Mahabhir in Annapurna Rural Municipality-7 of Myagdi.

The rock-and-mud landslide disrupted transportation along the 76-kilometer Beni–Jomsom road, stranding vehicles traveling between Beni and Mustang.

Local residents, tourists, and pilgrims heading to Muktinath have been affected. Police said efforts are underway to reopen the road using Department of Roads equipment.

Authorities said landslides frequently occur in the Mahabhir area from cliffs about 500 meters above the road, with even light rain triggering mudslides and falling debris that obstruct traffic and increase accident risks.
