KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) has resumed its session after a brief, chaotic adjournment, following a directive by Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal to remove controversial remarks made by an opposition lawmaker from the parliament’s official records.

When the meeting reconvened after a 15-minute suspension, Speaker Aryal ordered that the unparliamentary statement made by CPN (UML) Member of Parliament Rajendra Rai be expunged.

The disruption had initially erupted immediately after the Speaker opened the session at the Parliament Building in Singha Durbar.

The chaos began when Speaker Aryal granted the floor to MP Rai amid coordinated protests from several opposition parties, including the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML).

Taking the microhpone, Rai courted controversy by asking the chair, “Honorable Speaker, I have a submission to make; do you hear with your ears or not?”

The remark immediately drew a sharp rebuke from Speaker Aryal, who stripped Rai of his speaking time for showing contempt to the House and failing to maintain parliamentary decorum.

The incident quickly triggered a polarized, shouting debate across the aisle between treasury and opposition benches, forcing the Speaker to temporarily adjourn the session before the day’s official agenda could be tabled.
