KATHMANDU: Lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Tuesday raised issues ranging from alleged accountability gaps in past political violence cases to landless settlers’ housing problems, rising inflation and reforms in the sports sector.

Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Ramesh Prasai has criticized the government for failing to initiate legal proceedings against then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over their alleged involvement in the killings during the Gen Z protests.

Speaking during zero hour, he questioned delays in filing court cases and demanded accountability, also citing non-implementation of past commission reports such as Mallik, Rayamajhi, and Lal commissions.

Meanwhile, CPN (UML) lawmaker Yagya Bahadur Bogati urged the government to immediately resettle landless families, accusing authorities of demolishing settlements instead of resolving long-standing housing issues.

He said over 1.1 million families remain affected and also warned that rising inflation is severely impacting poor households.

In another intervention, lawmaker Rajani Shrestha defended Prime Minister Balen Shah against recent criticism and called for an immediate stop to attacks against him.

She also urged the government to depoliticise sports, end nepotism, and improve conditions for athletes, many of whom she said are forced to migrate due to lack of opportunities.

She called for sports education in schools, along with insurance and employment guarantees for athletes.
