KATHMANDU: The National Assembly has begun discussions on the government’s policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27 on Wednesday (May 13), with lawmakers engaging in a party-wise debate in the upper house of parliament.

Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal informed the House that a total of eight amendment proposals, including a joint proposal backed by 19 members, had been registered on the government’s policy document.

Earlier in the session, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, representing Prime Minister Balendra Shah, tabled a proposal to initiate deliberations on the government’s policies and programs for 2026/27, as outlined in the President’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament on Monday (May 11).

The debate has now formally begun in the upper house, with parties presenting their positions on the policy framework for the coming fiscal year.
