KATHMANDU: The Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit (PM Delivery Unit), established under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM), has officially commenced its operations.

Formed under an 18-point national commitment approved by the Cabinet, the unit is designed to bridge the gap between policy formulation and execution.

It will facilitate inter-agency coordination, resolve bottlenecks facing national pride and development projects, and track performance indicators in real-time to enhance public service delivery and capital expenditure.

OPMCM officials noted that the unit will report directly to the Prime Minister, and its leadership comprises joint secretaries from the OPMCM, the Ministry of Finance, and other key ministries.

This governance mechanism follows an international model first introduced in 2001 by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair to monitor core public sectors, a concept later termed “Deliverology.”

Following successful implementation in the UK and Malaysia, similar delivery units have been adopted by various other countries, including Chile, Indonesia, Tanzania, and Uganda, to drive government accountability and ensure the timely completion of national priorities.
