JHAPA: Strong winds coupled with hailstones happened in the district of Jhapa caused massive damage to the crops in the past one month.
The series of hailstorms coupled with rain caused massive damage to the maize farms, vegetables, fruits and beekeeping in the district.
Chief of the District Agricultural Knowledge Centre in Jhapa, Sagar Bista, said that crops and other agricultural property worth Rs 3.19 billion were damaged and other crops equal to Rs 1.72 billion were also damaged in all 15 local levels in the district. The maize farm witnessed massive damage compared to other crops.
Of the 15 local levels, Bahradashi Rural Municipality witnessed the severe impact of the disasters, as almost 75 per cent of the maize crops were damaged during the period.
Bista added that the maize farming done in some 840 hectares of land was damaged.
