KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has affirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by industrialists and entrepreneurs across Nepal.

Speaking during a pre-budget discussion organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister Paudel highlighted the government’s awareness of the hurdles confronting the private sector. He emphasized ongoing collaboration with business leaders to craft practical solutions aimed at revitalizing the sluggish economy.

Minister Paudel noted that the government has already introduced several legislative measures to support economic growth and is prioritizing economic revitalization through targeted policies. He also pointed out that a high-level Economic Reforms Suggestion Commission has been established to identify areas for improvement. “The government is committed to gradually implementing the commission’s suggestions and resolving economic challenges through the upcoming budget and legal reforms,” he stated.

During the event, FNCCI President Chandra Dhakal praised the government’s positive stance on supporting the private sector. Dhakal expressed optimism that the forthcoming budget would introduce incentives aimed at boosting investment and stimulating growth.

Dhakal further recommended that the budget prioritize reducing recurrent expenditures, increasing development spending, and enhancing both the purchasing power of the public and business productivity. He proposed that the government declare 2025–35 as an “Investment Decade” to ensure economic stability and attract long-term investments.

To inject dynamism into the economy, Dhakal suggested the establishment of a mechanism that would allow project loans of up to Rs 10 million without collateral. He proposed that the risk be shared among entrepreneurs, the Credit Guarantee Corporation, the government, and development partners.

Additionally, FNCCI has urged the government to extend the existing tax exemption facilities for startup industries by an additional five years, emphasizing the need to foster innovation and growth within the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
