KATHMANDU: Several writ petitions have been filed at the Supreme Court against the dissolution of the House of Representatives and the formation of the interim government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

Supreme Court officials confirmed that multiple petitions were registered on Tuesday, the first day the court reopened for new case filings after operations were disrupted due to the fire during the Gen Z movement on September 9.

Assistant spokesperson Nirajan Pandey said the petitions claim both the House dissolution and the formation of the interim government are unconstitutional.

“The petitions have been filed, and discussions are underway on how to proceed with them,” he said. The House was dissolved after the fall of KP Sharma Oli’s government following the Gen Z youth protests on September 8 and 9.

On September 12, Sushila Karki was appointed interim Prime Minister on the recommendation of Gen Z representatives.

Acting on her advice, President Ramchandra Paudel dissolved the House and announced fresh elections for March 5, 2026.

The Supreme Court administration has begun reviewing the petitions, marking the first major legal challenge to the political decisions made in the wake of the Gen Z uprising.
