KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed the government officials to upscale their performance adding that the existing work progress was not sufficient.
Addressing a review meeting of the implementation of policy and programmes, and budget of the current fiscal year at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Friday, the PM argued that our modus operandi should be improved as per the spirit of the country’s recent political changes and the aspirations of Gen-Z.
“The main reason behind public frustration is the rampant corruption and the delay in the country’s development progress,” the PM’s Secretariat stated by quoting the PM as saying.
The ministers, secretaries and the administrative leadership have a key role in controlling corruption from the state mechanisms, PM Karki added.
“I would like to direct you all to work responsibly to practice and promote fairness in your agencies,” according to the PM.
Likewise, PM Karki thanked the ministers and officials for doing something despite several difficulties caused due to an unusual situation of the Gen-Z protests, monsoon-induced disaster and the long vacation during the festive season.
The PM viewed that the review of the ministries’ performance is not only an administrative process but a key exercise to promote accountability. This is an opportunity to gain people’s trust and confidence to the government’s performance, PM Karki added.
Karki shared that public resources were also being mobilized for public welfare adding that the regular administrative processes were not enough to meet public aspirations.
Likewise, she asked the ministers, secretaries and all the responsible officials to work to address public expectations and effectively mobilize the line agencies.
The annual action plans of all ministries and their line agencies are being revised as per the cabinet meeting on September 21 for austerity measures and prioritization of the projects for the reconstruction and maintenance of public properties damaged during the Gen-Z protests, election expenditure management, economic recovery and relief, the PM stated.
