KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has launched a nationwide agricultural survey in collaboration with local levels, provincial line ministries, and relevant stakeholders.

A one-door system has been established for data collection to avoid duplication, according to Ramkrishna Regmi, Chief of the Ministry’s Statistics Section.

The survey will collect data on agricultural production, livestock, costs, marketing, income, irrigation, and infrastructure. Enumerators will meet farmers directly, and the survey will follow a sampling method.

In the first phase, 600,000 farmers will be selected, of whom 51,000 will be surveyed in detail to document their experiences, access to government services and subsidies, and to identify challenges, ensuring first-hand data collection.

The agricultural survey is considered one of the most significant national-level programmes after the National Census and Agricultural Census. The results are expected to be published between January and February 2026.

The Ministry has implemented training and capacity-building initiatives at the local level to enhance the efficiency of data collection. The resulting data is intended to serve as a scientific foundation for the development of evidence-based agricultural policies and plans.
