KATHMANDU: Discussions have commenced at Shital Niwas among the top leaders of the three major parties and the prime minister in the presence of President Ram Chandra Paudel.

President Paudel is holding talks with the top leaders of the three major parties in the House of Representatives and Prime Minister Sushila Karki.

Participating in the discussion alongside President Paudel and Prime Minister Karki are Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli, and Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Deuba, Oli, and Dahal are former prime ministers.

The president’s legal advisor, Baburam Kunwar, informed Nepal News that the discussion is ongoing to understand the parties’ views on the latest political developments and the upcoming elections.

Kunwar stated, “At the President’s invitation, a dialogue has taken place for the first time between the three former prime ministers and the current prime minister regarding the elections and contemporary political issues.” This is the first collective discussion among the parties following the Gen Z protest.

Previously, the president had held formal discussions with second- and third-tier leaders of the three major parties.

After Prime Minister Karki showed a lack of interest in meeting top leaders, political party leaders had been criticizing her. This meeting is expected to break the long-standing deadlock in communication between the government and the top leadership of major political parties.
