Objection window opens for newly registered HoR election candidates

KATHMANDU: The window for filing official objections opens today for any candidate currently appearing on the registered list of nominees for the House of Representatives.

According to the House of Representatives election schedule, the period for filing complaints against candidates who do not meet eligibility requirements has been set from 10 AM to 3 PM today.

Nominations were registered on Tuesday at the District Election Offices in all 165 constituencies.

Election Commission Information Officer and Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC stated that the process of filing complaints against ineligible candidates has commenced. GC mentioned that complaints can be submitted to the concerned Election Officer in accordance with Schedule 16 of the House of Representatives Election Directives, 2025.

If a complaint is filed, the Election Officer must record it in the registration book as per Schedule 17 of the Directives and provide a receipt to the complainant as per Schedule 18.

According to the election program, after the deadline for filing complaints expires, the Election Officer must prepare a list of the complaints received within the deadline according to Schedule 19 and publish it at the office.

In the notice published this way, the party against whom the complaint has been filed must appear with evidence within the period specified in the notice. Once such a notice is published, the concerned candidate will be deemed to have received information regarding it.

Investigations and decisions regarding the nomination papers and complaints will take place from 3 PM today until 5 PM tomorrow.

The list of candidates will be published from 5 PM to 7 PM tomorrow. The time for candidates to withdraw their names has been set from 10 AM to 1 PM on January 23.

The final list of candidates will be published between 1 PM and 3 PM on January 23. It is noted that the program to provide election symbols to the candidates is scheduled between 4 PM and 7 PM on the same day.

According to information received by the Commission so far, a total of 3,486 nominations have been registered, including 3,089 men, 396 women, and one third-gender individual.
