KATHMANDU: Nepal’s sports governing body, the National Sports Council (NSC), has directed all national sports associations to renew their registration by June 29.

Issuing a notice on Thursday, the NSC warned that associations failing to comply within the deadline could face cancellation under existing laws.

The council said many registered sports federations have repeatedly ignored renewal notices despite multiple reminders.

Citing the National Sports Development Act 2020 and its regulations of 2022, the NSC stated that non-renewed associations would face legal action, including possible deregistration proceedings.

Out of 75 registered national sports associations and federations, about half have not renewed their status. Even the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN), which reportedly handles annual transactions worth around Rs 1 billion, has not completed renewal.

For renewal, associations are required to submit documentation including records of annual general meetings, annual reports, statutes, future plans, audited accounts, and proof of at least one national-level competition.
