KATHMANDU: While the traffic police collect millions of rupees daily from the general public for traffic violations, they seem to have failed in maintaining effective oversight of the chaotic parking inside Singha Durbar.

It has become a common sight to see vehicles parked on both sides of various roads within the premises, occupying half of the roadway and completely blocking the sidewalks.

As a result, service seekers, employees, and visitors are forced to walk on the main road, greatly increasing the risk of accidents.

Paradoxically, vehicles are frequently found parked right under “No Parking” signs, raising serious questions about internal management and the commitment of law enforcement within government walls.

This unmanaged parking has hit persons with disabilities the hardest, forcing wheelchair users onto active traffic lanes because the sidewalks are completely blocked.

This directly contradicts government commitments to creating disability-friendly public infrastructure and ensuring equal access for all.

Ultimately, Singha Durbar should serve as a national model for governance, the rule of law, and civic discipline, yet the current situation reflects a double standard where rules strictly imposed on ordinary citizens are ignored by government personnel.

To bridge this gap between rhetoric and reality, the concerned authorities must take immediate action to clear sidewalks for pedestrians, enforce designated parking zones, and penalize all violators equally.
