KATHMANDU: Stating that the influence of the monsoon has increased across the country, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has indicated a possibility of rainfall in most locations.
Currently, the monsoon trough (low-pressure line) is positioned slightly north of its average position around Nepal’s Terai region in the west, and near its average position in the east.
The weather is cloudy throughout the country right now. Light to moderate rain is already falling in some places across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as in one or two spots in Karnali Province.
According to the Division, skies will remain mostly cloudy across the country this afternoon. There is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in most parts of the Himalayan, hilly, and Terai regions. Snowfall is also expected alongside rain in the high Himalayan regions.
The Division notes that heavy to very heavy rainfall could occur in some parts of the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces, a few places in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and one or two spots in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
Furthermore, there is a chance of extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places within the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Similarly, tonight will see mostly cloudy conditions across the country. There is a chance of moderate rain with thunder and lightning, as well as snowfall, in a few areas of the Himalayan region.
The Division projects moderate rain with thunder and lightning across most parts of the hilly areas in Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as most hilly and Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.
Tonight, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in some parts of the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Heavy rain is also possible in one or two places within the hilly and Terai regions of Madhesh and Bagmati provinces.
The Division has urged everyone to remain highly vigilant, as extremely heavy rain could hit one or two spots in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has also urged the general public to take necessary precautions, warning that excessive rainfall increases the risks of flash floods, landslides, inundation, debris flows, and riverbank erosion.
