KATHMANDU: Following extensive field inspections and “sting operations” across Madhesh, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung informed the National Assembly’s Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee that the government has pinpointed key border security challenges and is now moving aggressively to solve them.

Addressing concerns raised by lawmakers—including land encroachment by Indian Border Security Forces (SSB), harassment of locals carrying daily goods, and seasonal shortage issues with chemical fertilizers—Gurung highlighted plans to deploy infrared-equipped drone cameras to monitor the open border.

He further stressed the necessity of providing adequate equipment and safety guarantees to security personnel before assigning high-risk missions.

Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki and Armed Police Force Inspector General Narayan Datta Paudel also briefed the committee on ongoing efforts to curb smuggling and illegal trade in border regions.
