KATHMANDU: The Government has prioritized national security, digital infrastructure, and healthcare reform in its policy and programs for the 2026/27 fiscal year.
Presented by President Ram Chandra Paudel, the plan emphasizes modernizing security through facial recognition, automated surveillance, and drones, alongside the establishment of a specialized unit to combat cybercrime and digital fraud.
To reduce external dependency, the government intends to promote the domestic production of supplies for the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force while seeking to resolve border disputes through proactive diplomatic dialogue.
In the social sector, the government aims to bridge the digital divide by expanding high-speed internet to 10,000 community schools and strictly enforcing free secondary education.
Healthcare reforms focus on restructuring the national insurance system to eliminate bureaucratic delays and medicine shortages.
Key initiatives include the establishment of a Center for Disease Control (CDC), the expansion of telehealth for remote regions, and upgrading domestic pharmaceutical production.
Additionally, the policy outlines a shift toward integrated disaster management and the transformation of prisons into correctional reform centers.
