KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) staged a protest in Kathmandu on Thursday, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Balendra Shah over his remarks concerning border issues.

The demonstration, organized by the People’s Organizations Coordination Front, a coalition of groups affiliated with the CPN, took place at Maitighar.

Protesters alleged that the Prime Minister’s statements were anti-national and harmful to the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and called on him to withdraw the remarks and step down from office.

During the protest, CPN leader Rajendra Pandey described the Prime Minister’s comments as highly irresponsible, offensive, and contrary to national interests. He argued that in many developed countries, a prime minister making such statements would be expected to resign immediately and criticized attempts to normalize the issue in Nepal. Pandey further stated that the Prime Minister should publicly apologize for his remarks and resign if he fails to do so.
