KATHMANDU: With the farming season underway, lawmakers have demanded that the government ensure the timely availability of chemical fertilizers.

Speaking during the emergency session of today’s House of Representatives meeting, lawmaker Tahir Ali Bhat drew the government’s attention to resolving the fertilizer shortage across various districts immediately. “Neither DAP nor Urea fertilizers have reached any of the districts. We raise this issue every year, but the government turns a deaf ear. The government must end the influence of the agricultural mafia,” he stated.

Similarly, lawmaker Yagya Bahadur Bogati shared that 30-year-old Revanta Bishta, a resident of Mangalsen Municipality-5 in Achham who had been living in a rented room in Kathmandu, has gone missing for the past few days. He noted that despite lodging a police complaint, no significant search operations had been initiated, and he urged the government to expedite the search.

Lawmaker Sajida Khatun Siddhika called the government’s attention toward the protection of child rights, while lawmaker Rajendra Kumar Rai echoed concerns that farmers are being deprived of fertilizer right at the peak of the paddy planting season. Meanwhile, lawmaker Ranju Neupane pointed out a recent surge in cybercrimes and urged the government to make the Cyber Bureau more active.

Lawmaker Nishkal Rai emphasized that the government should actively incentivize tea and betel nut farming. “It has been six months since dairy farmers have not received their payments for milk. I urge the government to clear these outstanding dues immediately,” Rai stated. Additionally, lawmaker Jok Kumar Barbaria Yadav drew the government’s attention toward conserving water resources, land, forests, and the Chure region.

Lawmaker Kshitiz Thebe mentioned that the government has initiated the process of clearing huts and makeshift structures along the Phungling Bazaar and Suketar road section in Taplejung. He stressed that the government must pay serious attention to managing and relocating the displaced individuals who were residing in those structures.

Furthermore, lawmaker Mohammad Firdosh Alam reported that an unidentified group murdered the wife of Deepnarayan Raut in Rautahat on Thursday morning. He strongly demanded that the perpetrators be identified and punished with the full force of the law.
