KATHMANDU: The government will allow vehicles to operate in affected districts only after assessing the risk situation, keeping in view the threat of monsoon-related disasters such as floods, landslides, and inundation.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has intensified its preparedness following a forecast by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology that predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in 21 districts across the country.

Pradip Kumar Koirala, the Acting Chief Executive Executive of the Authority, stated that the decision to halt vehicle operations on road sections at high risk of potential landslides and floods was made with citizen safety in mind.

“In view of the risk situation, we had urged not to operate vehicles in districts prone to landslides,” said Acting Chief Executive Koirala. “Today as well, vehicle movement will be permitted only after evaluating the weather and the actual condition of the roads.”

According to Acting Chief Executive Koirala, continuous coordination is maintained with security agencies, local administrations, and the Department of Roads.

Permission to operate vehicles on highways and other roads will be granted only after confirming that the risk has subsided.

The Authority has urged the general public to travel only after following official weather and road updates, avoid unnecessary travel on high-risk road sections, and comply with instructions from local administrations and security agencies.
