JANAKPURDHAM: The Madhesh Provincial Assembly was adjourned for 10 minutes on Wednesday after the main opposition Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSP Nepal) and the Janamat Party obstructed proceedings, demanding amendments to the provincial government’s budget for the 2026/27 fiscal year.
At the start of the budget discussion, JSP Nepal lawmaker Upendra Mahato accused the government of breaching its commitment not to include projects worth less than Rs 10 million, saying allocations as low as Rs 500,000 had been included. He also alleged the budget was ministry-centric and had not been distributed equitably across all eight districts.
Speaker Ram Ashish Yadav suspended the meeting after the opposition refused to allow proceedings to continue until the budget is amended.
