KATHMANDU. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has officially corresponded with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), demanding an immediate and detailed clarification regarding reports of distributing party memberships to minors.
Invoking Section 21(1) of the National Human Rights Commission Act, 2011, the NHRC noted that issuing memberships to individuals under 18 violates domestic laws and Nepal’s international commitments.
The probe follows serious concerns over an organizational report presented and endorsed during the RSP’s recent general convention in Chitwan on June 23.
The approved report explicitly stated that 35,257 children under the age of 18 are currently registered as party members.
